HMRC mileage claim update

For the 2026/2027 tax year, the approved tax-free mileage rate for employees using their own car or van has increased for the first 10,000 miles, and the increase is backdated to 6th April 2026.

If your employer pays you less than the official rate, you can claim mileage allowance relief for the difference on your tax return.

Vans and Cars

55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, then 25p per mile thereafter

Motorcycles

24p per mile for all business miles

Bicycles

20p per mile for all business miles
